Dr. Ali Zentner received her undergraduate medical degree from McMaster University and completed her Internal Medicine Residency with an extra year of Cardiology training at the University of Calgary. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine. With a wealth of clinical and practical experience, Dr. Zentner built Revolution Medical Clinic and serves as its Medical Director. The clinic has been recognized as a centre of excellence by the European Association for the Study of Obesity. It is one of the largest multidisciplinary clinics in Canada run exclusively through the socialized health care system. The goal of the clinic has been to combine evidence and empathy and treat all patients with compassion, respect and dignity. We champion the fact that ALL people deserve good care and health at any size and that health is never determined by a number on a scale.
Dr. Zentner is the founder and director of the Canadian Obesity Peer Support Program- an online and in person peer support educational platform for clinicians wanting to learn about obesity. The program has trained over 600 clinicians in a peer support setting. The goal of the program is to educate physicians around the science and physiology of energy metabolism in order to end the shame and blame that patients too often endure in medicine.
Ali is the founder of NOFATSHAME. The goal of this movement is to be a multilevel educational and advocacy program that addresses weight bias in medicine. The project involves patients and clinicians and educates medical trainees, doctors and nurses on weight sensitivity and bias. It currently is working to promote weight sensitivity training in all medical schools and residency programs across Canada.
